Maldon District Issues and Options Consultation

In February 2021 the council agreed to launch a review to the current approved Local Development Plan.

It is necessary to carry out a review of the Local Development Plan because the growth set out in it has not come forward in the way it should have, and national planning policy has changed since its approval in 2017, this means that some of the policies in it are now out of date.

The district has several key issues which the Local Development Plan should look to tackle, these include making sure new development reduces carbon emissions and adapts to climate change; that harm from new growth is reduced by delivering the community facilities and infrastructure that residents’ need.  New growth should positively support a vibrant and robust economy, including tourism and deliver homes including affordable homes for all. The natural and historic environment is protected and that development is well designed to fit in with the uniqueness of Maldon District.

The Issues and Options Consultation Document is the first stage in the process of the Local Development Plan review and is non-statutory. The primary purpose of the consultation is to identify the key planning issues facing the district over the next Local Plan period (to at least 2038) and consider suitable options to address them. This consultation provides all stakeholders with the opportunity to influence the plan at an early stage.

The consultation on the Issues and Options Document is the starting point for the review of Maldon District's Local Development Plan. It's more of a conversation with you and the Council are seeking your views on a number of key matters.

The consultation will run from midnight on the 17th January 2022 to 5.00pm on the 14th March 2022.

Please note that all representations received will be made available to view publicly and we cannot accept anonymous comments.

This consultation is now closed.  Comments made will be analysed and assist with the review of the LDP and the next stage of the consultation process - Preferred Options.

How to complete the online questionaire

It is not necessary to answer all the questions, you can choose which parts of the consultation are most important to you.  Your comments, name or organisation will be made public but not your address.  We would advise you to keep your comments focused and concise.  It is not necessary to quote national planning policy, guidance or the policies in the existing local plan, if you believe it is important you can just refer to it by document name, paragraph or policy number and a summary of how it relates to your views.   This helps the Council understand your comments and identify the key matters that mean the most to you.  Please remember to save your answers to the consultation questions as you go along or periodically in case your internet drops out.
